Mission Statement

The mission of Opportunity, Inc. is to empower children of low-income working families to achieve future academic and life success by providing the best early childhood educational programming and support services, and by assisting their families with strategies to achieve self-sufficiency.

Opportunity, Inc. of Palm Beach County offers low-cost, high-quality preschool childcare, educational programming and parent support to hard working families who face serious financial challenges. The center offers a comprehensive, nationally accredited program of school-readiness training, fine and performing arts, recreation, health and nutrition, social development and field-trip enrichment specifically designed to prepare disadvantaged children to begin public school on equal footing with their classmates. Working with community-based agencies, including United Way, Opportunity, Inc. has forged alliances to provide, at no cost to its clientele, counseling and support in tax preparation, credit, homeownership, education/vocation, benefits navigation, nutrition, parenting skills, among other services. Through such alliances, we also deliver access to health-care, technical support, an economical food-purchasing program and crisis assistance. These services have led to increased family incomes, the purchases of first homes and the pursuits of continuing education and launchings of new businesses.

Accredited by the National Accreditation Commission and recognized as a Gold Seal School of Excellence by the Florida Department of Children and Families, Opportunity, Inc. Early Childhood Center has, for the last two years, earned five stars, the highest rating awarded by its rating system, Quality Cares of Palm Beach County. Our fully certified teachers are required to continue their education in early childhood development.

At Opportunity, Inc. our goal is to prepare children for school and to help them become independent and self-confident.

A key component of our academic program is the Florida Voluntary Pre- Kindergarten (VPK) program. VPK is a result of the state mandate to provide early childhood education to every child from the age of three to five years. We are dedicated, not to merely meeting the state’s strict VPK requirements, but to surpassing them so that our graduates are fully prepared to succeed throughout elementary school and beyond. We are pleased to have our VPK classes included in a performance pilot-program sponsored by the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, which includes the DLM Early Childhood Express and Imagine It! curricula, both published by The Wright Group, a division of McGraw Hill. These high-quality curricula raise the bar on early learning and elementary preparedness. Every day, in a safe, nurturing environment, we present to each child the individualized challenges he or she is ready for and teach each the skills needed to meet those challenges. We promote learning through enriched play and instill a “can do” attitude through consistent encouragement. Click here to learn more about VPK.

Opportunity, Inc. is the legacy of several compassionate, visionary congregants of Bethesda-by-the Sea Episcopal Church. Their compassion and vision live on in our academic excellence, our extended outreach programs and our emergence as a full-service community center. Today, under the benevolent watchful eye of our Board of Directors, Opportunity, Inc. is known as a “model of excellence,” maintaining best business practices while reaching deeper into the community to touch the lives of our students and their families.
